Step cooking
- We well wash the pumpkin, peel it, cut it in half and take out all the seeds. Cut the pulp of a pumpkin into a medium-sized cube. The pumpkin can be grated on a coarse grater, the finer the pumpkin, the thicker the jam.
- If you make jam from pumpkin alone, the taste will be specific, for an amateur, added spices and fruits give an additional taste and aroma. Therefore, the composition of the jam includes lemon and orange. In addition to a pleasant taste and aroma, these fruits give the jam a slight acidity. Wash the lemon and orange together with the skin in thin slices, taking out all the bones. In order not to feel the peel of the fruits, they can be passed through a meat grinder or chopped in a blender.
- In a deep saucepan we combine chopped pumpkin, lemon and orange. Pour 1 kg of sugar, mix thoroughly. Leave for 4 to 5 hours until the sugar is completely dissolved, stirring occasionally. Can be left overnight.
- When the sugar has completely dispersed, and the fruit has allocated juice, we proceed to cooking jam.
- We put the pan on medium heat and bring to a boil. After boiling, cook the jam for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Next, remove from heat and let it cool so that the pumpkin is soaked in syrup.
- We repeat this boiling procedure 3 times. You can increase or decrease the number of boils, as the more times you boil, the jam will be thicker.
Did you know? In this jam recipe, pumpkin is preserved in whole slices due to the fact that the fruit is cooked immediately with the pumpkin. If you want it to boil more, add lemon and orange after the pumpkin is slightly mashed. - In order to make the jam even more fragrant, you can add a few clove buds, a few peas of allspice, a stick of cinnamon when cooking.
- We put the hot jam in clean, dry jars. Jam jars can be sterilized in the oven or over steam. They must be completely dry before putting jam in them.
- We roll up the cans, turn over onto the lids and leave it until it cools completely. Keep rolled jam should be in a dark, cool place. If you do not want to roll up cans, you need to store such jam in the refrigerator.
- When the jam has completely cooled, you can serve it to the table. The jam is very aromatic, slightly resembling a pumpkin, in a thick viscous syrup, with a touch of orange and lemon. Ready jam can be used not only as an independent dish, but also as a filling for baking. Enjoy your meal!
