Ingredients
- Melon - 3 pcs. (3 kg)
- Lemon - 2 pcs.
- Sugar - 2.5 kg
Step cooking
- My melons and cut in half. We clean the seeds and cut into slices.
- Each share is peeled and cut into cubes. A peeled melon produces approximately 2 kg 300 g.
- Wash lemons well. Cut into circles with the peel. Each piece is cleaned of seeds and cut into squares.
- Add sugar. If the mass of melon and lemon is 2 kg 500 g, then sugar must also be taken two and a half kilograms.
- First, we fill in half the sugar and let the jam stand for 2 hours so that it starts the juice. After that pour the remaining sugar. You can also pour out all the sugar in one go. Leave the mass to stand for another 3 hours.
- We put a bowl of jam on the fire and cook on very low heat for 15 minutes.
- After that, let cool completely and boil again for 15 minutes over low heat. In total, the jam should be boiled for 30-40 minutes.
- Banks must be washed well with soda. No need to sterilize. After boiling the jam for the last time, pour it hot into prepared jars, cover with lids and roll it with a special seaming machine.
- After that, turn the cans upside down on the lids. Wrap a blanket or something warm for 4-6 hours.
- We send for storage to the cellar or pantry. In winter, open a jar, put jam on a plate and enjoy the original taste. Enjoy your meal!
Cooking options
There are also other options for making jam from melon:
- You can cook such a jam without lemon at all.
- Some hostesses add some water.
- Instead of lemon, lime, citric acid, or freshly squeezed lemon juice can be added to this dessert.
- As spices some hostesses add vanillin or cinnamon. You can add a little ginger to taste.
- There are recipes where vodka, rum, martini or cognac is added to such a dessert.
- If you like the mint flavor, you can add a little mint during the cooking process.
- You can also add apples, pears or a banana to the melon.
- Together with the melon, pieces of watermelon are sometimes boiled.
- There are recipes with the addition of grape vinegar.
- If desired, you can add the berries of red mountain ash.
