Step cooking
- To begin with, we rinse pearl barley in five waters, transfer to a bowl and pour boiling water so that it stands for a while.
- My chicken drumstick. Optionally, you can take chicken thighs, breast, fillets, etc. Lay in a saucepan and pour cold water. We put on the fire. We are waiting for the lower leg to boil for 10 minutes, then drain the water, and rinse the lower leg.
- Pour new water, on which we will cook our soup. This must be done in order to make the soup light and cloudy. Add the barley and salt.
- Peel potatoes, carrots and onions. Cut the potatoes into cubes or cubes.
- Finely chop the onion and sauté in a preheated skillet with the addition of vegetable oil.
- Rub carrots on a coarse grater and add to the pan.
- Let the soup boil for 20 minutes and add the potatoes. Cook for another 10 minutes and pour the prepared sauté (onion with carrots) into the pan and cook until the soup is ready. We taste, add as needed, add seasoning.
- When the soup is ready, take out the chicken drumstick and separate the meat from the bone. We pour it back into the soup, and throw out the bones. Let it boil until the potatoes are ready and turn off the heat.
- Pour the prepared chicken soup with pearl barley on plates and serve. Enjoy your meal!
Cooking options
Barley chicken soup can be cooked in other ways:
- You can add celery, parsnip, parsley, as well as garlic, lettuce and other vegetables to your taste.
- You can add fresh or dried mushrooms as you wish.
- There is a recipe with the addition of a tomato, tomato paste or sauce.
- You can add sour cream as desired.
- You can decorate the finished dish with chopped onions, parsley, dill or other herbs.
- You can cook such a soup with chicken hearts and liver.
- Instead of vegetable oil, butter can be used.
- You can experiment with adding spices. Such soup is well suited: bay leaf, basil, types of hot peppers, ground paprika, coriander, thyme, oregano.
