Step cooking
- For cooking, you will need 2 medium-sized herrings. You can use fresh or frozen fish. In the latter case, pre-defrost the herring in the refrigerator.
- We begin to prepare the fish. First, we cut off the head along with the pectoral fins. We make a knife with a deep incision on the belly and get all the insides. We wash the herring under running water and pat the fish with paper towels. It is important to clean the inner walls of the abdomen well so that the finished fish does not have a bitter aftertaste. Cut off the tail. If the fish caught milk or caviar, then they can also be baked in foil along with herring, which is much juicier.
- Put 2 herrings in a deep bowl, add salt to taste and sprinkle with a pinch of black pepper. Similarly, season the fish on the reverse side. Milk with caviar is also salt and pepper.
- We cut one medium-sized onion into small slices.
- We unfold the aluminum foil and put 1 carcass of herring on it. In the belly thrust half the milk or caviar. Inside we also put a little onion and 1 bay leaf. It is also possible to fill the herring with several slices of lemon, then the finished fish will have a spicy sourness.
- Wrap the herring in foil well. It is recommended to raise the edges of the foil upward, this will prevent leakage of juice and drying out of the fish. Similarly, wrap another herring.
- We put the fish packed in aluminum foil on a baking sheet or in a baking dish. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and set the fish to bake for 20-25 minutes. A few minutes before readiness, you can unfold the foil and put the fish in the oven for a few more minutes. In this case, the herring will have a fragrant, golden crust.
- We serve the finished fish to the table, laying it out on a beautiful dish. To the baked herring, you can cook any side dish to your taste, for example, boiled potatoes with herbs or steamed vegetables. We decorate the finished herring with green onions, a sprig of dill or parsley.
