Step cooking
Preparation of cereals and vegetables
- Pour 2 cups of water into the kettle, put on fire, bring to a boil. In a bowl, wash 400 g of pearl barley from starch and vegetable debris. After washing, drain the water until it becomes transparent. Pour the washed cereal with boiling water in a deep plate or bowl so that the water covers all the porridge. We leave to swell in boiling water (at least 10 minutes), while we are cutting vegetables. If desired, you can soak in cold water and leave for 1 hour, so that it swells.
- Cut 1 onion into small cubes. Grate 1 carrot.
Cooking porridge
- In a crock-pot, put 1 can of stew with fat. Fat will be instead of oil. If the stew has a large piece of meat, then it is better to finely chop it, so that later it is better to distribute in the porridge.
- Put the chopped onions and carrots in the pan.
- We pour hot water from the cereal into the sink, put the barley in the pan.
- Pour cold water into the pot in a proportion of 2: 5 (for 2 cups of cereal - 5 cups of water).
- Add 3/4 Art. l salt. Do not forget that the stew is already salty! Salt can be diluted in water, and then pour it with barley in a pan.
- All is well stirred. Close the multicooker with a lid. Cook on the beans for 1 hour. If your multicooker does not have such a regime, set it to “buckwheat” or “porridge”; it also evaporates water without boiling.
- Turn off this mode and turn on the "heating" mode. This is necessary so that the water from the porridge evaporates. The time is set for 20 minutes, press the "start" button. Before the "heating" mode, you can open the lid and put 50 g of butter.
- All the water has evaporated, the porridge is ready and has become thick. Spread on a plate. Sprinkle with chopped herbs and chopped garlic.
Useful information
- Soak pearl barley before cooking is desirable, but not necessary. But still, it is better to soak immediately before cooking, so that the porridge is tasty and crumbly.
- In the process of cooking, pearl barley increases by 5 times, so it is necessary to take this into account in advance and choose a pot with a margin.
- Salt is added at different cooking times, but in most cases at the beginning of cooking after boiling water.
- After cooking, barley should not be washed.
- In a slow cooker, barley is cooked from 50 to 70 minutes (after 50 minutes of cooking, you should check the porridge for readiness every 5 minutes).
