Step cooking
- We begin to prepare the ingredients. Pour pearl barley into a bowl and rinse it well. Leave the barley in cold water to soak for about 30 minutes.
- Cut the bulbs into small squares.
- Cut the carrots into thin strips.
- Wash petiole celery in water and cut into thin slices.
- We put a pan with a thick bottom on the fire, add vegetable oil.
- Heat the oil and add the onions and carrots. Well fry a couple of minutes until golden brown. Add salt to fry vegetables faster.
- Add the barley to the pan. Fill everything with water, bring to a boil over high heat, and as soon as the boil begins, add salt, mix the ingredients.
- Add two bay leaves, a little chili pepper, add celery to the same place.
- Knead the stew in a jar with a fork and put it in a pan.
- We bring the contents of the pan to a boil, set the fire to a minimum, when everything boils, cover with a lid and cook porridge for 40-50 minutes until cooked. Turn off the heat, mix the porridge and cover the porridge with a lid.
- Leave for another 10 minutes, so that the porridge is insisted. Done! You can decorate the dish and serve. Enjoy your meal!
Cooking variations
Barley with stew is not only very satisfying, but also very useful. And it doesn’t matter what kind of stew you choose - it will be equally tasty with both beef and pork. Diversify the dish and try to cook it by adding your favorite ingredients to taste, and you will get a completely different taste! For example, as an additive and filling, you can use the following components:

- zucchini;
- a tomato;
- bell pepper;
- garlic;
- green pea;
- corn;

- beans;
- asparagus;
- mushrooms.
