Step cooking
- Pearl barley cooks faster if it is pre-soaked, and it is better in hot water. Before doing this, carefully sort it out and rinse. Then soak for 2-3 hours, and even better - at night. After that, rinse the groats again.
- Cut the onion into small cubes. Three carrots on a fine grater.
- We heat the pan, pour 50 ml of vegetable oil into it. Pour the onion into the pan.
- Next we send the carrots, fry, stirring, until golden brown.
- Pour the groats into the ready-to-fry, mix.
- Pour water so that the barley is covered with it on your finger. If necessary, water can be added (do not immediately pour a lot, it is better to add later). Pour 1 tsp. salt, mix.
- We close the pan with a lid and after boiling, cook for 15-25 minutes - until tender.
Useful Tips
- Other ingredients such as parsnips, celery roots, garlic, bell peppers, etc., can be added to a vegetable pearl barbecue roast, depending on your imagination and preferences.
- Instead of salt, you can use soy sauce.
- Barley porridge can be served as an independent vegetarian dish, or as a side dish, it is especially suitable for grilled meat, fish, and game.
- It will be appropriate to sprinkle the cooked porridge with herbs.
- If you just cook pearl barley, the ratio of water to cereals is as follows: for viscous porridge, 5 parts of water should be taken for part of the cereal, and 2.5 parts for loose.
