Step cooking
- In a deep bowl we put 350 g of wheat flour. There is no need to sift it, but if you wish, you can sift it.
- In flour, make a small depression in the middle, into which we put about 1/2 tsp. salt and pour 2 tbsp. l vegetable oil. You can
use any vegetable oil that you like best, but you should choose a product without a pungent odor.
- Pour 200 ml of water into the kettle, and as soon as it boils, gradually pour it into the flour. When infused, slowly mix the flour into the liquid. First you can knead the dough with a spoon, then with your hands. Do not immediately knead with your hands, since you can burn them with boiling water. The dough after 7-10 minutes after mixing is plastic and does not stick to your hands.
- We put the dough back into the bowl and cover with cling film. Give the dough to rest for 20-30 minutes at room temperature. After 20-30 minutes, remove the cling film from the dish and slightly crumble the dough on the table, which is lightly sprinkled with flour.
- From the dough we form a sausage, which we cut with a special scraper into about 6-7 identical parts.
- From each piece of dough we form a round cake. If necessary, sprinkle the dough lightly with flour. We roll the cake with a rolling pin so that its thickness is no more than 2 mm. The dough should be very thin. You can use the lid to give a round shape to the pita bread. We apply it to the rolled dough and cut a circle with a knife. Similarly, we make blanks from the remaining pieces of dough and lay them on a flat plate on top of each other. To prevent them from sticking together, sprinkle them on top with flour.
- On the stove, turn on the medium heat and heat the pan for 7-8 minutes. It should be well heated. On a dry preheated pan, lay out one piece of pita bread. A few seconds after the appearance of bubbles on the pita, we turn it over with the shoulder blade to the other side. Fry on the reverse side for no more than half a minute and remove the pita bread. Similarly, prepare the remaining workpieces.
- We lay the finished pita bread right after frying on a wooden board and spray it with a small amount of water from a hand-held sprayer. Cover the pita bread with a linen towel.
- Shawarma can be prepared from ready-made Armenian pita bread. Pita bread is quite thin and with a pleasant taste.
