Step cooking
- Wash and peel 2 large root beets of red beets. Peel the vegetable. If the vegetables have wilted, soak them in cold water in advance for several hours. Cut each beetroot into arbitrary pieces as you wish: slices, circles, a semicircle, and cubes.
- If you are preparing beetroot for salad, you can bake it whole by completely wrapping the root crop with foil (baking time from 60 to 90 minutes). The root crop for baking in its entirety can not be cleaned, so it turns out more juicy. When baking several vegetables, choose beets of the same size so that the cooking time is the same for all root crops.
- Cover a small baking sheet or baking dish with a sheet of cooking foil. Lay the pieces of beets on a leaf so that they do not cover each other.
- Salt the beets on both sides to taste (2-3 pinch of salt). Use regular kitchen salt (not iodized). Pepper pieces to taste with black ground pepper (from 2 pinches). For a more pronounced aroma, you can take white ground pepper or ground pepper mixture. Sprinkle the vegetables with Provencal herbs or any other spicy herbs you like. Pour the beet slices with vegetable oil (3-4 tablespoons).
- Place the beet pan in the oven, heated to 200 ° C. Bake for 15-50 minutes. The exact baking time depends on the characteristics of your oven, the size of the pieces of vegetables and their variety. Sliced beets are ready when they are easily pierced by the tip of a knife or fork. Store the baked product in the refrigerator for no longer than 3-4 days.
Baked beets retain a greater amount of nutrients than when cooking vegetables, as they are not washed with water. From vegetables prepared in this way, delicious salads and snacks are obtained. Vinaigrettes, vegetable salads, appetizers with baked beets have a completely different taste, color and aroma than when using boiled vegetable. Borsch and beetroots cooked from baked root vegetables have a more saturated color and taste.
