Step cooking
- For cooking, you need 400 g of brown lentils. If you like red, green, or some other lentil, you can cook it. It is recommended to choose an extra class product. Before cooking, put the lentils in a deep plate and rinse well under running water.
- We peel 1 medium-sized carrot, rinse with water and first cut into straws, then into small cubes. We clean the onions and also grind it into small cubes. If you chop the vegetables very large, they will be strongly felt in the finished dish.
- In a small pan with a thick bottom, pour 1 tbsp. l vegetable oil. If you do not like a similar product or are not at home in stock, then replace the olive oil with any other vegetable oil. We put the pan on the stove and heat the oil a little. In a saucepan with heated oil, spread the chopped onion. Fry it over medium heat for several minutes. To prevent it from sticking, stir it with a spatula.
- When the onion becomes a little soft and a golden hue appears, add chopped carrots. Grind 1 clove of garlic through a press and add to the remaining vegetables in a saucepan. If there is no garlic press, then it can be finely chopped with a knife. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly with a spatula and simmer for several minutes over medium heat under a closed lid.
- To the slightly stewed vegetables, add the washed lentils.
- Pour boiled water in a kettle with ingredients. On average, about 2 cups of boiling water is required. But it is worthwhile to independently regulate the amount of liquid, since it can vary depending on the pan. Water should cover all products with 2 fingers. Do not pour too much water, it is better to add later if necessary.
- Mix everything in the pan and increase the heat so that the liquid boils. As soon as the lentils boil, reduce the heat to a minimum, cover the pan with a lid and cook the dish for 1 hour. If you like softer lentils, you can increase the cooking time to 1 hour and 45 minutes. If you prefer harder lentils, then cook it for 30-45 minutes. In the middle of cooking, add lentils to taste.
- An hour later, the lentils are ready. We cover the pan with a lid and turn off the fire. Let the dish brew for another 15 minutes. Lentils are ready. It can be prepared for lunch, breakfast or dinner. Such a dish is quite useful, because it contains many trace elements.
