Ingredients
- Beets - 500 g
- Onions - 200 g
- Tomato Paste - 50 g
- Sugar - 1 tbsp. l
- Ground black pepper - 0.5 tsp.
- Salt - 1 tsp.
- Vegetable oil - 100 ml
Step cooking
- Peel 200 grams of onions, cut ponytails. Grind vegetables in small cubes or slices.
- Heat 50-60 ml of vegetable oil in a large pan well. Take oil at your discretion, it is better to take a deodorized product (odorless). Pour the chopped onion into a pan, fry over medium heat with occasional stirring until the slices are transparent or until the onions are light golden. Put the finished onions in a plate, freeing the pan for further cooking.
- Wash and peel 500 grams of beets. Rub the peel on a coarse grater. If there is an electric grater - use it.
- Heat 50 ml of vegetable oil in a pan, transfer the grated beets to the pan. Fry, stirring, until the vegetable is soft (about 10-12 minutes).
- Add the fried onion slices to the beets, mix well. If desired, at this stage you can add a few cloves of garlic and very finely chopped dill, parsley or basil, dry spicy herbs to the dish. These ingredients give the appetizer a spicy, more spicy taste. Garlic, dried herbs and herbs are not listed in the list of ingredients for making beetroot caviar.
- Pour 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of sodium chloride into the pan. Pepper the dish with black ground pepper (0.5 teaspoon without a slide).
- Put 50 grams of tomato paste in a pan, mix well until all components of the mixture are evenly distributed.
- Cover the pan, reduce heat to a minimum. Stew beetroot caviar for another 15 minutes. Serve cold or hot, garnished with chopped herbs.
This simple but tasty appetizer is suitable for meat dishes, poultry, various side dishes: potatoes, cereals, vegetables. Can be served with fish, with toasts, eggs. In the presence of such a vegetable mixture, the hostess can save time by using beetroot caviar as an ingredient for other dishes, for example, as a component for more complex salads, dressing for borsch, soups.
