Step cooking
- We put peeled potatoes into the finished broth. You do not need to cut it.
- Shred the cabbage.
- Rub carrots on a coarse grater.
- Cut the onion into large pieces.
- Add the cabbage to the broth when the potatoes are cooked in half.
- We heat the pan, pour in the vegetable oil and send the onions. Fry the onion until golden.
- Add carrots to the onion and fry until soft carrots.
- Add chopped bell pepper. Stir and simmer another 3 minutes.
- Add tomato paste, mix and simmer another 5 minutes.
- Add salt, bay leaf to the broth and mix everything together.
- Pour the frying into the broth, mix.
- We get a whole potato. It must be crushed to the consistency of a thick puree.
- Add the potatoes back to the borsch.
- Leave the borsch to boil for another 7-10 minutes under the lid over medium heat.
- At the very end, add the greens and turn off. Cover and leave for another 1 hour. Done!
Cooking variations
To prepare such an unusual soup without beets, it will take you no more than one and a half hours. The most important thing is that the dish turns out to be very tasty and will definitely be liked even by those who don’t really like borsch. Standard borsch served with garlic buns and bacon. This borsch can also be served with these ingredients.
You can serve borsch with ham or bacon, fried in a pan in advance. But it would be better if the ham or bacon is cool, with a small layer of fat. Together with a meat snack, you can serve buns, which you can make yourself. In order to make them, fry in a pan any bun or bread that you find at home, make a mixture of garlic squeezed through a press, salt and melted butter. Lubricate bread or rolls with this mixture, and a simple and tasty appetizer for borsch is ready!
