The content of the article
Thermal stickers (thermal transfer stickers) are made of noble velvet fabric, light satin, satin or a dense, keeping form flock (usually used for furniture upholstery). The surface of the sticker can imitate hand embroidery or be a photo print, as well as a neon sticker that glows in the dark.
Applications are either sewn on or glued with a hot iron. Some are fixed with adhesive tape. Double-sided adhesive non-woven is also used. The latter is more suitable for volumetric elements.
Methods of fixing the pattern depending on the type of fabric
If the material on which you plan to fix the sticker withstands high temperatures, feel free to choose the option with adhesive mounting. If not, do not experiment, it is better to sew.
- Bologna. An application definitely needs to be sewn on a Bologna jacket. They do not recommend even drying Bologna in the sun, not to mention the use of a well-heated iron. Please note that in this case you need to fix the sticker, fixing it from the wrong side with a second layer of fabric.
- Leather. A similar verdict is to sew.
- Stretch fabric. Knitwear, synthetics, as a rule, are easy to stretch, so some skill will be required in order to fix the quality of the application. Sewing will be easier.
- Jeans. Due to its density and ability to keep the shape of the applique, it is convenient to fasten both by sewing and by gluing. In the second case, clearly determine the place of fixation, cover the sticker with a layer of natural fabric. Well, if it is a little transparent - you can verify the correct gluing. Further, the procedure is standard.
Sticking Steps
To stick the applique on a T-shirt, trousers, jacket and other things, proceed in four stages.
- Workplace preparation. Release the ironing board or any other flat surface that needs to be covered with a dense fabric in several layers.
- Preparing clothes. Fold the fabric so that the fixation point is centered on the work surface (ironing board). Straighten the edges carefully so that there are no wrinkles, bends or waves. If necessary, iron the garment first. Clearly define the place and angle of gluing. Shifting even a couple of centimeters after fixing the sticker will be very difficult, so there should be no mistake here.
- Gluing. Put the applique on the fabric, cover with tracing paper or just a sheet of white paper. Iron with a well-heated iron for the first time. In doing so, make sure that the steamer is turned off. Press down the sticker with an iron for 15 seconds.
- Expectation. Do not remove tracing paper or white paper immediately. Allow applications to cool. After 10-15 minutes, carefully remove the protective layer of paper.
A number of images are simply transferred to the fabric. To do this, use thermal paper. For light fabrics, it is transparent and after fixing does not have a background - only a pattern remains on white clothes. Before transferring thermal stickers to clothes, be sure to iron the fabric carefully so that there are no ugly folds. And then proceed according to the above scheme.
How to remove image from fabric
Over time, even the highest quality applications lose their presentation. If the wardrobe is still in good condition, you can remove the pattern from the fabric. Again with an iron. Prepare an ironing board, several sheets of white paper and a napkin for the procedure. Next, proceed in three steps.
- Training. Lay the product on an ironing board so that the sticker is in the center of the work surface. Place two sheets of clean white paper under it, and another sheet on the front.
- Treatment. Iron the glued place well with an iron so that the sticker warms up. Repeat the procedure until it begins to adhere to the paper.
- Branch. Now carefully remove the applique from the clothes.
If the application is applied using thermal printing, you can remove it with alcohol. Dampen a tight gauze swab in it and remove the pattern with light sweeping movements. The same alcohol or acetone can erase a pattern made with a special marker or paint. It is even easier to peel off the rubber thermal sticker. On both sides, cover it with four-layer gauze, then go for a hot iron.
